Interactive digital narrative
A story about gender dysphoria
For the course ‘Interactive Storytelling’, which I followed during my master New Media Design at Tilburg University, we had to create interactive digital narratives (IDN) in groups. We were free to choose the topic, but it needed to discuss a ‘grey area’. This means that the story had to discuss a matter where there is no clear right or wrong.
‘The Stranger In The Mirror’ elaborates on the difficulties that a child with gender dysphoria experiences, and the struggles that parents have to cope with in this kind of situation. The narrative develops towards the tellable event: transitioning (or not). The interactor is being led through the journey of Sarah’s youth: a kid who discovers that she is not content with the body she was born in.
The full digital narrative can be found here. Unfortunately, the digital narrative can only be viewed on desktop.
